Help Fight Puppy Mills

Puppy mills usually house dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, without adequate veterinary care, food, water and socialization. Puppy mill dogs do not get to experience treats, toys, exercise or basic grooming. To minimize waste cleanup, dogs are often kept in cages with wire flooring that injures their paws and legs—and it is not unusual for cages to be stacked up in columns. Breeding dogs at mills might spend their entire lives outdoors, exposed to the elements, or crammed inside filthy structures where they never get the chance to feel the sun or breathe fresh air.

Will you join our fight to save lives?
Puppy Mills and Back yard breeds are people who breed for profit and not to better the breed. There are good breeders out there but sadly there are a lot more puppy mills and back yard breeders. The conditions in many of these mills are indescribably cruel — many of the puppy mill dogs we rescue have never been cared for, have never been outside a cage, have never been held or felt grass under their feet. All they know are the close, cramped cages that confine them day after day, year after year.  Depending on how long the dog has been in this kind of environment it may take months to years to get a dog to trust us and become a real dog again. We have seen so many of these dogs turn out very loving and trusting and become great family pets. It just takes time, money and commitment to get them back on the right track. They normally come with a few health problems. each one will need dentals, blood work, spayed, groomed and other needed testing. Most puppy mill dogs cost us between $300-$600 to have them vetted. That's a small price for freedom!

Teddy and his brother Pookie were 3 years old and never seen the grass. They were born in a puppy mill and kept as future breeds. They were never loved as puppies, never had toys, never brushed and never shaved. When we saved them they weighed 10 and 12 pounds. Their legs and tail were so badly matted to their bodies they could hardly walk. Once they were shaved down they were 4 and 6 pounds! All that weight was matted hair. They are now living in Chicago together being spoiled and loved. We are happy to report that they are very happy and act like normal loving dogs! Thanks to everyone who help in the effort to give them a chance at a new life!
This poor little Maltese was left at the shelter by a breeder that didnt want to deal with her. She was older and in need of a c-section. They left her in her cage in labor for 2 days. By the time we got her she was almost dead. She lost all the puppies and almost her life because they waited so long to turn her in. Im sure she made them $1000's over the years and this was how they repaid her. Her vet bills with c-section came to $978
This little girl was so scared at first. She was blind, and about 12 years old and just had her last litter of puppies. She was turned in with 4 other yorkies. We are happy to report that even with her old age and Blindness a lady found it in her heart to give her the loving home she should have had from the start.
Mickey was a scared and very matted little dog. We were shocked to find a little yorkie under all that hair. His new owners gave him a great home and he is now a happy playful little guy. Just shows you that a little grooming and love will go along way!
Here are some of our puppy mill and back yard breeder dogs we have saved with your help. We have seen so many dogs come and go over the years. Most of our puppy mill/breeder dogs come in as groups as breeders close down, or dogs come in when they need vet care they dont want to pay for, or they are to old to breed.
